Donbas, Ukraine. Known for its various coal mines, is considered home to some of the most hazardous working conditions in the world. And yet, coal mining serves as the only source of income for many families receiving tax support from the government.

While most of the mining projects operate under the government, a recent rise of illegal mining has begun to spread across the region to pursue efficiency and increase profit. While creating millions of dollars in revenue, working hours upon hours under exposed coal dust and methane can take a debilitating toll on the workers’ personal safety.

Toronto-based photographer Valeriya Myronenko documents critical working and living conditions for both government and illegal workers in Donbas.

People who say bi erasure doesn’t happen need to realize Freddie Mercury is know as the most famous homosexual man when he identified himself as bisexual. If that’s not bi erasure I don’t even know.

The famous scene from Tarzan and His Mate (1934), where Jane goes skinny-dipping. In order to appease particular state laws, and to avoid a total censoring of the film’s release in certain areas, this scene had to be filmed three times - once as seen here, once with partial nudity, and once with no nudity. Appropriate prints were then distributed to the various States depending upon the suitability of content. Consequently, in order to avoid the heavy production costs of filming content several times, the Hays Code, a ‘production’ code rather than the ’moral’ code many believed it to have been, was introduced so as to regulate and standardise film distribution across all the states. The result was that incredibly beautiful scenes such as this became a thing of the past. The graceful nude swimming was actually performed by Olympian Jopsephine McKim, so that’s not really Maureen O’Sullivan you’re seeing in the nip. It’s probably a double-standard that Weismuller isn’t also completely naked, but he and O’Sullivan do spend the entire film wearing next to nothing. “Cheetah, can’t you see I’ve nothing on?”  (Greshang)
